Mommy, are you sure you know what you're doing?
I am a domestic goddess. There is nothing that I can't do. To demonstrate my excellence I decided to have some freshly baked peanut butter cookies waiting for my sweet husband when he got home. So I pulled out my
KitchenAid 5 quart mixer. Yeah that's right, I'm not trying to brag or anything but it is awesome! I got it for my birthday. Thanks, Buddy and Vi! I whipped up the dough in no time. It truly was a pleasure. I painstakingly rolled the balls of dough to be all the same size to assure that the cookies would bake uniformly. Consistency is key. I made the hash marks with a fork look just right and into the oven they went. The recipe called for an oven preheated to 375. Our oven seems to cook really hot so I adjusted the temperature to 350. Then I set the timer for 8 minutes instead of 10-12 as suggested.
Visions of perfectly golden brown cookies filled my head as I tidied the kitchen. I would take some to the spa tomorrow on a pretty little plate to offer to clients. Everyone would marvel at my abilities. The timer alerted with a beep! beep! beep!. I turned towards the oven and .....uh, oh. There was smoke streaming out of the door. Crap. This is what I ended up with.
Apparently I had somehow hit the temperature dial on the oven and turned it to almost 500 degrees! Brilliant. So, Violet and I took an opportunity to play outside while the smoke cleared. I am glad to report that the second batch came out much better! Not enough to share with clients, but Buddy was happy!
oh no! This made me laugh, though. I'm glad you had the chance to make a second batch.
ReplyDeleteI had written a long comment in response to this post, sharing my own crazy adventure, but now I see it isn't even here! All that typing on the little iPod for nothing :( Oh well. I'm glad you were able to produce an edible batch of cookies! :)
